With the increase in car sales, the demand for automotive brake pads is also increasing. The performance requirements of the vast user community for automobiles have also risen from basic practicality to comfort. One important indicator is vehicle noise, and the part about brake pads is brake noise. As a manufacturer starting from OEM of supporting original parts for automobile main engines, Boyun Company cooperates with domestic and foreign manufacturers to conduct strict noise matching tests on brake systems of different models, accumulating a large amount of test data and noise optimization results for different models. Let's talk briefly about how the complete and accepted noise test results are produced.
1、 Advanced experimental equipment
LINK Corporation, the largest supplier of friction material testing equipment in the world and a governing enterprise of the American Automobile Industry Association, is renowned in the industry for providing test benches with sophisticated, flexible, and powerful control software. Boyun Corporation has two performance benches, one noise bench, compression performance testing machines, and road data acquisition systems from LINK Corporation. The noise bench can complete noise tests for various test procedures, and various road conditions and braking conditions are simulated during thousands of steps of testing. These advanced testing equipment are busy running at all times of the year, except for the equipment calibration time.
2、 Optimization of comprehensive performance
There are many performance indicators for friction materials, such as stable friction coefficient, good wear resistance, moderate hardness, suitable compression performance, small thermal expansion, good high-temperature resistance, low noise incidence, and low wear on brake discs. For friction material developers, developing a formula requires hundreds of thousands of tests. After optimizing all performance indicators, the optimal formula is one that meets the requirements of the automobile factory. At Boyun Company, there are more than 20 new formulas under development each year, and eventually these formulas are accepted by customers before continuing to be promoted to various models. Noise is a very important indicator, but in fact, the effect achieved through experiments is low noise, not zero noise. Due to different vehicle conditions, different road conditions, and different brake conditions, the noise performance of the brake pads with the same formulation may vary among different users' vehicles.
3、 Strong engineering capabilities
After optimizing the performance of friction materials, there is still a lot of work to be done before a formula can be applied to actual brake pad products. In the process of engineering, there are still many detailed improvements and applications that will affect the actual driving noise. The most basic ones are the shape design of the friction plate, the groove chamfer, the shape of the friction plate back plate, the number and position of pins on the back plate, the material selection and shape design of the muffler plate, and further ones are the engineering recommendations for the caliper, the thickness and slope of the caliper foot, the material and size of the internal guide rail spring plate, and the microelement content of the brake disc. These differences in actual vehicles can cause noise differences in timely use, which requires our professional friction material research and development team and brake manufacturers to cooperate sincerely to troubleshoot and solve various issues during the brake design finalization process.
After a series of tests and design work, the brake pads produced at this time are already low noise and high comfort friction pads. Is there any problem with their application? not always. However, for brake pad enterprises that have undergone strict noise research and production, the causes of occasional noise must also be found. Based on a common understanding of the causes and testing process, both end customers and retailers will take a rational view of this issue.
